EDWARDSVILLE—State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) spoke to a group of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy students on Tuesday.
Haine discussed updates to laws and regulations governing pharmacist while visiting with SIUE’s chapter of the American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacist.
“Staying engaged in public debate and understanding how healthcare is affected by the state is a key part of caring for your patients. Pharmacists are an important part of every community, and you are the future of this profession,” Haine said.
Haine gave an update on legislation expanding the ability of pharmacists to give vaccinations in addition to discussing Medicaid and other insurance issues affecting pharmacies.
“As student pharmacists, it is critical that we are involved in policy making that will impact our future careers and our future patients. We were happy that Senator Haine could come speak and educate students about Illinois policy,” Abby Buchman SIUE’s policy vice president for APhA-ASP said.
