062916CM0709SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Bill Haine (D-Alton) issued the statement below after Gov. Rauner issued an amendatory veto of Senate Bill 1, a proposal that would have fixed Illinois’ worst in the nation school funding formula.

“The governor had an opportunity to fundamentally change the school funding formula to benefit thousands of children across our state. Instead, he has chosen to play divisive, partisan politics and pit schools and children against each other.

“Every school in the state, including those in Alton, Edwardsville and the surrounding communities benefited under this new formula. I’m incredibly disappointed by the governor’s decision, but I’m committed to continuing to work toward what is best for our children.”
