hainehsv1SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a six-year $12.62 billion dollar roads project, Wednesday. Over $195 million of these funds will go towards road and bridge work in Alton, Godfrey, Granite City, Edwardsville and the surrounding area.

“I am encouraged by these ongoing improvements to our highways, roads and bridges,” Senator Haine (D-Alton) said. “We will be benefiting from these infrastructural improvements for years to come.”

These construction projects will repair, maintain, and expand existing roads and bridges. Construction on these projects will begin in 2014 with the majority of the major working being staggered across the six years to reduce the impact of congestion.

Some of the regional projects include:

• $110 million for the Alton-Godfrey Expressway to build a new bridge and improving the grading of the surface roads

• $26 million to resurface, repair bridges and ramp repair on I-255 in Madison County

• $120 million for structural and surface bridge repair on I-55/I-70 throughout Madison and St. Clair Counties
