GODFREY, IL Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) and Representative Dan Beiser (D-Alton) joined with local and state officials on Friday to unveil a new stretch of Illinois Route 255 spanning from Seminary Road to Humbert Road in Godfrey. The project created or supported 285 jobs.

"Representative Beiser and I worked on this for years to see this project through, to prevent raids on the money designated to our region, and now it is near completion," Haine said.

"Highways such as this one bring commerce and travel to our area. They assure the future prosperity of our area. You can see it through by the thousands of people moving into the area," Haine added. "They're coming here because of the university and community colleges, because Conoco and the other major employers are adding jobs. This stretch will be an asset for generations."

"When I became Chairman of the Transportation Committee in the House, I stated that this was the number one priority," Beiser said. "It is a pleasure to see this segment come to completion. We have a great road that will last for years to come."

The $22 million project was made possible by $17.6 million from the Federal Highway Administration and $4.4 million from the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. An additional Illinois Route 255 interchange at Illinois Route 111 will be completed next month. Both projects are part of an overall plan that extends Illinois Route 255 to U.S. Route 67.
