Haine MAP grantsThe Illinois Senate voted to override Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of SB2043 on Wednesday. The legislation would give the governor the spending authority to honor his administration’s commitments to the student financial aid program known as the Monetary Award Program.

State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) released the following statement:

“I am happy to see that my colleagues in the Senate see MAP grant funding as important as I do,” said Haine. “Making sure MAP grant funding is a priority is making sure our students’ futures are a priority. I hope the legislation receives the same support in the House.”

Group PhotoEAST ALTON– Eighty-six miles of levees separate the Metro East from the waters of the Mississippi River, and those levees are receiving much needed upgrades.

State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) state and county officials visited one construction site to review the progress of these updates to the Southwestern Illinois Flood Prevention District.

“These upgrades are an investment in the safety of the entire Metro East. Every dollar of this project goes toward protecting businesses, property and—most importantly—lives. It’s impressive to see a project of this scale and complexity on schedule and under budget,” Haine said.

Haine StatesAttorneyAwardSPRINGFIELD - State Senator Bill Haine (D - Alton) was recognized today by Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons with the Retired State’s Attorney Badge.

The event was held at the Madison County Administration Building and honors Haine’s service to the people of Madison County. Haine served as State’s Attorney from 1988 until joining the Senate in 2002.
