ALTON, IL – The controversial legislative scholarship program will officially be abolished under legislation signed into law today. House Bill 3810, co-sponsored by State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton), will end the program on September 1 and establish a task force to examine other tuition and fee waivers offered at public universities, totaling $415 million a year. The task force will be required to report back to the General Assembly by April 15, 2013.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – A resolution was adopted last week on the final day of session recognizing Russell E. Dunham, a World War II veteran and long-time Alton-area resident. The resolution, sponsored by State Senators Bill Haine (D-Alton) and Sam McCann (R-Carlinville), recognized Dunham’s military achievements, such as receiving the Medal of Honor, and dedicated a portion of highway in his honor.
